This is it - the penultimate episode of Amerikan Tabloid. See the crows alight on telephone poles like emissaries from the underworld as we follow this broken road into the dark heart of post-war Americana, ash in our eyes and smoke in our lungs. First, we dig on shakedown artist, bagman, fixer and private investigator Robert Maheu, tracking his work for the CIA and Howard Hughes, before dropping in on the Kennedys as Bobby launches a crusade against organized crime and Jack contemplates a presidential run. We then look at the mafia war of the 1950s and the Appalachin farce that humiliated J. Edgar Hoover. Shortly afterwards, the Cuban Revolution leaves American mobsters and businessmen alike out of pocket and looking for payback. Meanwhile, some geek with delusions of grandeur splits from the US Marines and fetches up in the USSR. I hear they call him Lee Harvey Oswald. This one goes well with neat Scotch and a fresh pack of Lucky Strikes. You do not want to miss it, so get some.

We then move to Dallas, tracking the ascendant Cowboy faction of the power elite, the economic heart of the US war machine, and the early career of a young George HW Bush. We conclude with a look at JFK and his entry into politics, and the roots of his conflict with Allen Dulles.

We also discuss the rise of the southwest Cowboys as the boom times arrive and the oil tycoons of Dallas and elsewhere spread their money and influence around Washington.

Soaked in DMT and armed only with scissors and tape, we dive into a pile of newsreels and microfilm to piece together a gutter-level account of deep state intrigue in 1930s Amerikkka. FDR contends with a fascist coup to his right and a firebrand populist to his left, Hoover launches a war on subversives and cracks skulls at home, "Hollywood" Joe Kennedy whistles past the Crash of 29 and continues his climb up the ladder, while Dulles, Bush, and friends cut deals and launder money with the new government in Germany.

One last visit to Italy before we journey to the USA. Here we consider two stories, one real and one fictional: the life and times of Peppino Impastato, and Giorgio De Maria's work of occult, visionary genius, The 20 Days of Turin. I haven't been able to think of one without thinking of the other all year long, and tonight I try to figure out why, exploring the Anno di Piombo, history, terrorism, alienation, paranoia, the mafia, and where we might go from here. It's low-key my favourite episode of everything we've done so far, so I really hope you dig it too.
